ACORNS is a wonderful environmental education program designed specifically for students in the 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades. ACORNS blends NC S.O.L. Science Curriculum with outdoor recreation to give students a learning experience that is exciting and memorable. Students engage in hands-on experiential education while developing an understanding of the natural world surrounding them.
ACORNS is available to public and private schools, churches and home school groups. Programs are available in the Fall & Spring, and are flexible with group sizes. ACORNS is facilitated by experienced and caring staff members. These facilitators specialize in gaining the students attention by relating material to them on a relevant level. All learning labs will take place outside, so the students have the best possible exposure to the lessons they are learning.
An ACORNS day can last between three to five hours depending on the group size.

Caraway staff members have also chosen the perfect classroom to facilitate ACORNS. The great outdoors ACORNS curriculum will include the topics of insects, aquatic life, animals, flora and fauna, and sensory awareness to name a few. Activities and games will be the primary vehicles by which the material is delivered to students. As an added bonus, Caraway’s unique “Squirrel Walk” ropes course is included as part of an ACORNS day. The Squirrel Walk takes students on an exciting journey following a day in the life of a squirrel, while teaching the students the values of cooperation and teamwork. The final element in the journey is a thrilling ride down our 12’ high zip line.
